The 2023 Vitis Gewürztraminer AOC Valais from St. Jorden Kellerei represents one of the rarest and most fascinating expressions of this aromatic grape variety in Switzerland. Also known as Red Traminer for the slightly pink color of its grapes, Gewürztraminer has ancient and mysterious origins, likely linked to Southeast Europe, but its name derives from Tramin, in Alto Adige, where it has been cultivated since the 11th century. In Valais, its single-varietal vinification is rare, making this label particularly exclusive.
In the glass, it presents a bright golden yellow, revealing a rich and captivating bouquet: intense floral notes of rose emerge, combined with aromas of lychee and exotic fruity notes. On the palate, it is a dry yet enveloping wine, with full body and a softness that leaves room for a delicate touch of sweetness. The 2023 vintage is characterized by surprising freshness, thanks to a well-defined acidity that lends balance and vivacity to the drink. The finish is persistent and complex, with hints of almond and bitter orange peel.
Its aromatic intensity makes it perfect paired with rich, spicy dishes, such as Asian or Indian cuisine, but it also pairs beautifully with blue, goat, and aged pecorino cheeses. Thanks to its structure and versatility, it can be enjoyed immediately but offers its best within 1-5 years after the harvest, if stored at 7-10°C. A rare, elegant, and memorable wine, combining tradition and the uniqueness of the Valais terroir.

In Visperterminen, in the Swiss Valais, at 1,378 meters above sea level, St. Jodern Kellerei cultivates some of the highest vineyards in Europe. Founded in 1979, it is a cooperative with 480 members who produce heroic wines from varietals such as Heida (Païen), Fendant, Rèze, and Gamay. Some of the vineyards are still ungrafted, a symbol of authenticity. The winery is part of the Vini Estremi and Vini Franchi projects.
